Southend Airport handles mainly scheduled passenger flights but also does some cargo flights. The airport is owned by the Stobart Group who also operate the airport. The Stobart group are investing in the airport to capitalise on demand for regional airport capacity, especially in the South East.

There are a few warehouses around the airport and in the nearby town of Rochdale. Because of its stratgeic location and proximity to London there is a wide variety of warehousing in the area. Lots of haulage companies operate around Southend-on-sea and Basildon along the A13, A127 and A130. There are a number of BRC accredited sites for storing food and drink, and their are a large number of third party logistic (3PL) companies operating in the area for pallet and bulk storage.
