The Port of Southampton is a passenger and cargo port located in the central part of the south coast of England. At Stowga we are interested in it's container operations - and according to the DP world Southampton's website (the operator) the company claims to be the UK's most productive container port handling more than 1.5 million TEUs each year.

The terminal can handle 15.5m draft vessels - the biggest ships in the world, and has 23 container trains, a 5 ha multi-user bulk terminal, 14,500 sq m of cool and cold storage with a temperature range of -2°C to +15°C and has deep-water berths capable of accommodating two ships simultaneously. As a result, the port is critical for major UK imports and exports. Stowga clients looking for space in the area have predominately be importers of food stuffs: peanuts from China, lentils from Canada and sugar from Brazil to name a few examples.

The main clusters of warehouses in the Southampton area are to the West of the city in Calmore, and to the North in Eastleigh. Bulk and pallet storage facilities run by third part logistic providers (3PL) are to be found along the M27 and M3. Many haulage firms are located along the M27 down towards Fareham. Chilled storage can be found in Whitely, Eastleigh and along the port itself.
