The Port of Felixstowe is Britain’s biggest and busiest container port, and one of the largest in Europe.
The port handles more than 4 million TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) and welcomes approximately 3,000 ships each year, including the largest container vessels afloat today – crucially, the port provides some of the deepest water close to the open sea of any European port. Around 30 shipping lines operate from Felixstowe, offering approximately 90 services to and from 400 ports around the world.
As to be expected from such a major port there is a huge amount of local warehouses - many of which are available for short term/temporary contracts. Supply is tight so prices in the area are high, and goods being stored tend to be fast, temporarily being stored before being transported elsewhere. There are rail and road links with the A14 and M11 connecting the port to distribution hubs in the Midlands and elsewhere in the UK.
Nearby is Colchester, Chelmsford, Stowmarket, Ipswich and Witham - all of which have decent amount of warehouses. The high concentration catersfor every need so there are specialist warehouses for food, drink and frozen goods. There are a number of freight forwarders, third party logistic providers (3PLs) and haulage firms. A huge amount of short term pallet space is available throguh Stowga at the port and in nearby towns.
