The Port of Barrow is located in South-West Cumbria. It is close to the Lake District and is linked to the M6 by the A590. There is also has a direct connection to the national rail network for bulk and general cargoes.
The port has facilities and experience for handling limestone, sand, aggregates, granite, woodpulp, liquid gas. The port plays a key role in serving the offshore energy industry and is the site of BAE Systems' submarine design and manufacturing facility. As a result the surrounding area is well-placed to support the construction and servicing of these engineering industries.
There is a lot of secure storage supporting these industries and the port has 15 ha of secure open storage. For bulk and pallet storage there is a third party logistics company (3PL) nearby in Dalton-in-Furness who can provide full supply chain support: customs clearance, transportation from the port, container and van de-stuffing, warehousing and other value-add services like pick and pack.
